Thoughts on NBA Free Agency And Summer Trades (So Far…)

I’ve seen some suprising and groan inducing deals in my day. Still, this past week and a half has been rife with such moves. I’m not going to talk about every last trade and signing because, well, I just don’t want to. Instead I’ll talk about the ones that, to me, had the most impact.

RIP Michael Jackson

When I heard the news yesterday I didn’t want to believe it. I thought cats were joking or something. Then when I heard cats blast michael jackson songs in midtown it started to set in.

I played Thriller on the way back home and thought about what happened. I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again. Thriller is the best pop album ever made. I mean Off the Wall and Bad are great but Thriller is his magnum opus. Not even the lame duet he did with Paul McCartney could deny it’s legendary status. It’s one of my favorite LP’s ever and it’s one of the first I ever listened to front and back.

This cat’s been getting some buzz for months and I kept turning my attention elsehwere. So when I saw that his latest dropped this Monday I decided to see what all the fuss is about. I didn’t know much about dude other than he’s from North Carolina and he’s the first Roc Nation signee. I don’t know the specifics behind the deal but he had to have impressed Hov to get that big cosign. I tried not to get gassed but I knew he had to have something special to get noticed by one of the greats.

I hate to see the season end like this. No, I’m not mad that the Lakers won. In fact I’m glad Kobe got a chip and I expect him to make a diss record at Shaq in the coming weeks.

But c’mon now, the finals were so garbage. It wrapped up in 5 games. One was interesting (game 2) the next best one was aggravating (game 4) and that’s it.

E3 was dope and all but I had my fill of video games for a while. When the event ended I knew I needed a break from anything related to gaming. Don’t get me wrong cause E3 was fun. But being in two large show floors surrounded by bright lights, loud music, and too many people to count will grate on you. So I went a week and a half long detox to reset myself.

But now I’m back in it like I never left.

So Hov dropped the bomb (D.O.A. – Death of Autone) last Friday and cats have been buzzing nationwide. I like the song and I felt like something of this magnitude had to be done. As he explained on The Angie Martinez show Monday he’s not saying cats like T-Pain are wack. Instead, he’s challenging artists to try something new and innovative with their work: namely their melodies.

Still you have to wonder if Jay is as much of a threat as he was, say even five years ago, to people’s careers. A lot of heads make their daily bread on cranking the plugin up to 11. Plus it’s not like the radio and DJ’s have suddenly stopped playing Ron Browz’s and DJ Webstar’s records.

Was I REALLY in LA last week?

If so I still can’t believe it. I was really on the other side of the country for a good minute. I never went further west than Atlanta before that so it was a big move for me. Anyway E3 was crazy. I’m still detoxing from games so no Xbox or TF2 on my laptop for me until further notice. Anyway I got some flicks of the city after the break. Check it out.

Fight Night Round 4 (Demo): Issues and Impressions

I got the news that EA’s Fight Night Round 4 dropped via joystiq and damn near jumped out my chair. EA has been running off at the mouth about how much better this game is than 3 and it looked great in the videos. Still hype isn’t worth anything if you can’t back it up. Naturally I downloaded the game on standby as I watched ball.

A couple of hours and a Cavs win later I got a chance to check out the demo. I opened it and saw the opening splash screen. I waited a few moments and nothing moved. Moments turned to minutes and I thought my xbox froze.
