Answer to Spot The Sample 3

Brigitte Bardot

I might as well drop the bomb now before I forget. The samples (vocal and instrumental) on “Meiplé” came from Brigitte Bardot’s “Moi Je Joue”: french for Me I Play. You see what they did there? That ain’t the worst of it. Just listen to the source material. Continue reading ‘Answer to Spot The Sample 3’

Colin Munroe – Piano Lessons performed live w/ Joell Ortiz

Why do I keep missing out on these performances? Well it’s not like I could have made it. I was still at school on May 7th. Oh well, this video (provided by Will @ Culture VI) reminds me that I need to go to more concerts this summer. I got all the free time in the world now so I think it’s an attainable goal.

The KiD CuDi Effect

Scott Mescudi, bka KiD CuDi, is an interesting character to say the least. Dude went from myspace to Hot 97 off of the strength of Day N Night: a TWO YEAR OLD song. Maybe the radio was slippin’ (nah really they were). Plus the Jim Jones remix played a role in it’s success. Nevertheless that’s unheard of.

He doesn’t really go in when he raps and he’s not the best singer. But he knows how to craft songs that people want to hear. That talent, along with a GOOD MUSIC cosign and a left of center look, gives him an edge in not only rap, but pop music in general.

I can’t recall being a major fan of her music at any part of her career. Not that it’s horrible or anything but it just missed me. If anything I give her props for writing her own stuff.

Her looks are a TOTALLY different story.

R&B Could Use More Talent Like Ryan Leslie

ryan-leslie

When I take one of my “rap breaks” I tend to turn to r&b/soul tracks so I can keep my ears satisfied. Lately 90’s Slow Jams and the odd Jamie Foxx song have been the go to players. I’ve also developed an appreciation for Ryan Leslie: not only for his singing, but for his production and songwriting skills (outside of rapping) as well.

Kid Cudi – Super Boo

I know I’m supposed to cut down on these kind of posts but I couldn’t help myself.

I don’t know what to think: Santigold

santigold1

I was introduced to Santigold’s music right when last summer started. I was on some website, peeped some songs, and let’s just say I wasn’t a fan.
