Delonte West: XXL’s Missing Freshman

Some may think I’m being sarcastic with that title but hear me out. Here’s why Delonte West, starting guard for the Cleveland Cavaliers, succeeds as a rapper/entertainer. Continue reading ‘Delonte West: XXL’s Missing Freshman’

DWYCK – 17 Years Later…

Dwyck is one of my favorite DJ Premier tracks ever. The beat is simple, catchy and knocks all the same. There’s no hook and it actually works better that way. It makes the rhymes stand out more and sets it apart from so many songs from that era. Plus the video had some bad girls in it and there’s nothing wrong with that.

It’s Good To Be a Pac Div Fan These Days…

Pac Div 2

There’s nothing like the feeling of seeing an artist/group you follow grow from e-hype to mainstream praise. Pac Div ain’t exactly mainstream yet but they’re well on their way.

Kidz in the Hall – Suspension One Minute, Honor Roll The Next

Kidz In The Hall

What does it mean to be successful in rap: a slew of classics, multi-platinum sales, the adoration of fans worldwide or perhaps a mixture of each?

Colin Munroe Interview w/ Culture VI

Will dropped this by knowing damn well I’d post it. So here it goes haha. Thanks go to Will @ Culture VI for hooking me up with the video. Colin definitely has a shot to be a crossover success. I’m rooting for him which is saying a lot considering I don’t like most alternative music.

Colin Munroe – Piano Lessons performed live w/ Joell Ortiz

Why do I keep missing out on these performances? Well it’s not like I could have made it. I was still at school on May 7th. Oh well, this video (provided by Will @ Culture VI) reminds me that I need to go to more concerts this summer. I got all the free time in the world now so I think it’s an attainable goal.

The KiD CuDi Effect

Vodpod videos no longer available.

Scott Mescudi, bka KiD CuDi, is an interesting character to say the least. Dude went from myspace to Hot 97 off of the strength of Day N Night: a TWO YEAR OLD song. Maybe the radio was slippin’ (nah really they were). Plus the Jim Jones remix played a role in it’s success. Nevertheless that’s unheard of.

He doesn’t really go in when he raps and he’s not the best singer. But he knows how to craft songs that people want to hear. That talent, along with a GOOD MUSIC cosign and a left of center look, gives him an edge in not only rap, but pop music in general.

Late Pass! Notherground TV: March 09 Pt. 2/April 09 Pt. 1 Recap

Vodpod videos no longer available.

First off, I hope you guys have a Happy Easter if you celebrate it. I finally got around to watching this last night but I was too tired to post it. Yes wordpress is that taxing to use when you’re sleepy. Anyway, I noticed that The Kid Daytona is seen doing a song with Mimi and I’m like wow that face looked familiar.
