This joint was one of my favorite songs of the summer. What’s crazy about it is people may overlook the fact that Martin Louie snuck a sample in there. It’d be TOO EASY to ask what person he sampled. So I decided to up the ante and ask yall what song did ‘Ye get the song from? Google it out and get to work.
In other news Hype Williams shot the video for this song last month so It shouldn’t be long until it pops up on a screen near you…
I asked you guys if you could find the sample behind LL Cool J’s single “Loungin’ ” featuring Total earlier this week. Much to my dismay no one found the source.
I’m launching a little series called Spot That Sample! The rules are in the title pretty much. All you have to do is check the music above and spot the source material.
Today’s entry features LL Cool J’s “Loungin’”: one of the singles off of Mr. Smith back in ‘96. Trackmasters were behind the boards on this one and Al B. Sure! of all people helped out with the lyrics. My best guess is he helped write the hook. Then again if you ever heard the song they sampled they didn’t change much.
Dwyck is one of my favorite DJ Premier tracks ever. The beat is simple, catchy and knocks all the same. There’s no hook and it actually works better that way. It makes the rhymes stand out more and sets it apart from so many songs from that era. Plus the video had some bad girls in it and there’s nothing wrong with that.
Killer Mike always rhymes as if his life depended on it. Trackstar The DJ collabled with him as they conjured up a FREE tape for your enjoyment. There’s nothing like the feeling of seeing an artist/group you follow grow from e-hype to mainstream praise. Pac Div ain’t exactly mainstream yet but they’re well on their way.

This cat’s been getting some buzz for months and I kept turning my attention elsehwere. So when I saw that his latest dropped this Monday I decided to see what all the fuss is about. I didn’t know much about dude other than he’s from North Carolina and he’s the first Roc Nation signee. I don’t know the specifics behind the deal but he had to have impressed Hov to get that big cosign. I tried not to get gassed but I knew he had to have something special to get noticed by one of the greats.
